Annual inflation rate in Lithuania at 7.2% in July 2023

The euro area annual inflation rate was 5.3% in July 2023, down from 5.5% in June. A year earlier, the rate was 8.9%. European Union annual inflation was 6.1% in July 2023, down from 6.4% in June. A year earlier, the rate was 9.8%. These figures are published by Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

Estonia’s external economic activity fell in June

A flash estimate put Estonia’s current account at EUR 20 million in deficit in June 2023, up from a EUR 92 million deficit in June 2022, with both exports and imports of goods falling by 10 percent but service exports up 3 percent and imports 2 percent on year, bumping the services account surplus by EUR 12 million to EUR 238 million, according to a statistical release published by the Bank of Estonia on Monday, reports ERR.

Lithuanian residents now associate energy sector with renewable energy sources more often

Over the year, the number of Lithuanian residents who associate the Lithuanian energy sector with renewable energy sources has grown. Such association is more prevalent among students. This was shown in a survey conducted in April by KOG Institute for Marketing and Communication Sciences at the initiative of Ignitis Group, a renewables-focused integrated utility. The survey also nodded towards an annual decrease in respondents who associate Lithuanian energy sector with natural gas, Ignitis Group reports.

Household deposits and loans continue to grow in Lithuania

The Bank of Lithuania has published the monetary financial institution (MFI) balance sheet and interest rate data for June 2023, which show that deposits of Lithuanian residents with credit institutions decreased by €300.6 million, or 0.8% over the month (its annual growth rate was 10.7%): non-financial corporation deposits fell by €348.3 million, or 3.2%, while household deposits went up by €207.0 million, or 1.0% (their annual growth rates stood at 17.9% and 6.9% respectively).
